Stirling Stuff: A Scots Hen Weekend
Stirling, at the heart of Scotland, offers hen parties a brilliant Scottish hen weekend.
‘The best small city in Scotland’, Stirling is a great base from which to explore Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, so is a great location for hen parties who like a mix of city and country life. Stirling will be somewhat familiar to many hen parties as it was made famous in recent times by the film Braveheart about Scottish legend William Wallace. Tourism increased dramatically in the city after the release of the 1995 film. Thousands now pay homage to the great Scottish hero every year by visiting the Wallace Monument. Fans of Robert the Bruce can also head to the Bannockburn Heritage Centre to discover more about the famous battle.
Stirling Castle dominates the city and is well worth a visit. Recently voted the UK’s Best Heritage Attraction, by Which?, the Castle has undergone a £12 million renovation project that has returned the royal lodgings to majestic splendour. Built as a fortress, garrison and royal palace, the Castle has borne witness to some of the most notorious intrigues in Scottish history. The home of Mary Queen of Scots and the Stewart kings, the Castle has been captured by Bruce and besieged by Bonnie Prince Charlie.
From the Castle you can take a wander through the Old Town of Stirling. For those feeling brave you can take a ghost tour of the historic centre to get a real feel for the city. Stirling’s historic centre was traditionally the trading centre of the city, and you can still browse the shops in the Old Town for gifts, and stop for a coffee in one of the numerous coffee shops or bars in the area. For hen parties that like to shop, Stirling has a good range of high street and boutiques in city. The main shopping areas are centred on King Street, Barnton Street and Friars Street.
The MacRobert Arts Centre is considered one of the best in Scotland, presenting cutting edge and mainstream dance and theatre – so be sure to check out the programme if you are heading to Stirling. As well as an active cultural scene, Stirling has a thriving university scene, so there are plenty of bars and restaurants to keep you entertained at night. You can head to the Kilted Kangaroo, Nicky Tam’s, and the Portcullis, or sample some of the TinPot Microbrewery and Allanwater Brewhouse’s finest freshly brewed beverages in nearby Bridge of Allan – and then dance the night away in Fubar.

Natalie K, for burlesque hen party LondonI just wanted to say that we had an absolutely fabulous time at our burlesque hen party in London, you made us all feel at ease, especially as some of the girls were nervous about the lesson. Your bubbly and enthusiastic nature was infectious and you made sure that we were all having fun throughout, from choosing our own burlesque names to showing off our moves to music. The fact that you are a burlesque performer gave a more personalised and authentic touch to the lesson. Prehaps the most important thing was that the hen had a fantastic time. Massive thanks and if we are ever again in London needing a burlesque lesson we will definitely get in touch! (written to Viva Misadventure, company director and burlesque performer/teacher)
